PostSubject: Brazil sack coach Dunga    Brazil sack coach Dunga Icon_minitimeTue Jul 06, 2010 6:27 pm

Dunga has been sacked as Brazil coach following his country's quarter-final exit from the World Cup.

A statement from the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) confirmed the former captain has been dismissed, along with his entire coaching staff.

Dunga, 46, who returned with his squad to Brazil on Sunday, had already said he was likely to go after the 2-1 defeat by the Netherlands on Friday.

The CBF revealed that a new coach would be installed by the end of the month.

Corinthians manager Mano Menezes and former AC Milan coach Leonardo have already been tipped as possible successors as well as former Brazil coach Wanderley Luxemburgo.

WORLD CUP PHOTO ALBUM
Do you have a photo with yourself and a star from Brazil? Send us your photos to finish our World Cup Photo Album!

Luiz Felipe Scolari, who led Brazil to a fifth World Cup triumph in 2002, has ruled himself out because of his commitments with club side Palmeiras, but reports in Brazil say he heads a list of five names that also includes Leonardo, Menezes, Fluminense coach Muricy Ramalho and Ricardo Gomes of Sao Paulo.

Dunga, whose full name is Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri, is a legend in his homeland after captaining his side to World Cup victory in the United States in 1994.

He took over as coach of the national side in 2006, replacing Carlos Alberto Parreira, despite having no prior professional coaching experience.

606: DEBATE
Ultimately, should Dunga's four-year reign as Brazil coach be considered as a failure?

His more pragmatic style of play split opinions in Brazil, with some supporters believing it stifled the natural attacking flair of the five-time world champions.

As far back as December 2009, Dunga revealed he would step down after this year's finals, even if his side managed to lift the trophy in South Africa.

However, defeat at the hands of the Dutch put an end to their dreams of a sixth world title.

Dunga had hinted that there was a chance of him returning as coach, telling a news conference: "I am going to rest before meeting, in one or two weeks' time, the president of the CBF, Ricardo Teixeira to talk about it (extending his stay in charge)."

However, the CBF quickly ended any hope of another contract.

"With the closing of the work cycle that started in August 2006 and ended with the elimination of Brazil from the World Cup in South Africa, the CBF announces the dismissal of the technical commission of the Brazilian team," the federation said in its statement.

The first big challenge for the new coach will be the 2011 South American championship - the Copa America - due to be held in Argentina .

However, the 2014 World Cup will dominate the agenda, particularly as the tournament will be held in Brazil for the first time since 1950.

It wasn't exactly Dunga's fault except not taking Pato/Dinho to the Finals.

They were well beaten by the Dutch.

He's a young coach and he'll learn from this. He made very few mistakes but 2 trophies out of 3 is not at all a bad record for an international coach. But that's what happens with expectations of millions of people.

Everyone knows he's a loony ever since he left Zanetti and Cambiaso at home for Heinze and Rodriguez.

Scolari was awesome at Portugal, and Quieroz was brilliant at OT. Chelsea came, and fucked it up for Portugal, as well as Scolai. Not so much Scolari, he's (or was?) earning a fat paycheck at Bunyodkar.

Well it's not like any manager can just step in and make an instant success, Chelsea shud understand it, it takes time to settle things, specially players and their egos, if the coach dosen't make it clear who's the boss then they{players} make excuses and the manager gets sacked.

I concur. Anyways, Chelsea haven't been good at having managers for the last few years. Why would anyone sack Mou when he had won back2back titles, and was doing decent enough. Anyone would be pissed if the team owner stops the funds abruptly.

THE SEARCH BEGINS
For Dunga's successor as Brazil coach

CAPE TOWN -- Who will replace Dunga as Brazil coach?

Former Brazilian international Mano Menezes, A.C. Milan coach Leonardo or ex-Brazil national coach Wanderley Luxemburgo were mentioned as possible successors to Dunga, who was sacked yesterday in the wake of the team's quarterfinal exit from the World Cup.

Dunga and his staff were given pink slips by the Brazilian Football Confederation.

The confederation said a new coach will be selected before the end of the month, prior to Brazil playing the United States at the New Meadowlands Stadium on Aug. 10.

Luiz Felipe Scolari, who directed Brazil to its fifth world championship in 2002, had been mentioned as a coach, but he recently signed a two-year deal with Palmeiras. However, if the federation really wants Scolari, don't be surprised if he is offered a lucrative deal.

Leonardo was the player who fractured Tab Ramos' skull in a second-round match at the 1994 World Cup. The Brazilian was given a red card for elbowing Ramos and wound up suspended for the rest of the tournament, giving Branco an opportunity to pull off his late heroics by converting a spectacular free kick in a 3-2 quarterfinal triumph over the Netherlands. Branco played with the MetroStars during the 1997 MLS season.

Brazil faces pressure in signing the best possible coach because so much will be on the line when it hosts the 2014 World Cup.

He won't coach Argentina for sure.

It was more to do with Abrahimowich bringing in Shevchenko when Mourinho didn't want him, I think.

That maybe, and also because Abramovic was dilly-dallying over availability of funds to strengthen the squad, I believe.
